There once lived two beautiful stars, Luna and Lupus, who sang in the evening sky. The other stars loved their beautiful melodies and admired them. For a while everyone was happy. The two stars sung songs and danced in the evening sky.
But Earth complained about the stars' ruckus, for his people used the stars to navigate and see, and when the two stars danced Earth's people got confused. Earth complained day and night about the stars, but they would never stop dancing in the evening sky.
Earth decided to complain to the Sun. The Sun listened to Earth's complaints for hours and agreed that the stars should stop, for he created Earth's people and didn't want the stars to ruin what he had made.
He asked the stars to stop dancing.
"Why do the people get to dance, and we can't?" Luna asked the Sun.
"Their dancing doesn't get people lost, therefore you must stop."
And Luna and Lupus did. They stopped their dances, but continued their songs.
Earth was still unhappy, for the songs were keeping his people up all night, and distracting them in the morning. Again he complained to the Sun and again the Sun agreed with him.
"You have to stop singing, for Earth's people can't sleep or work."
"But if the people get to sing, why can't we?" Lupus asked the Sun.
"Because their singing doesn't cause harm to others."
"But what can we do?" Luna asked. "We don't have any job to perform, all we do is sit here."
The Sun started to get angry.
"If you don't stop singing, there will be consequences,"
the Sun said, and left before they could respond.
But Lupus and Luna continued to sing in the evening sky. The next morning the Sun came to Luna and Lupus.
"I told you to stop singing. Since you did not, you must pay the price."
"You told us to stop dancing, but you can't force us to stop singing,"
Lupus said.
As a penalty, the Sun turned Luna into the moon, doomed to circle the Earth for all eternity, and he turned Lupus into a wolf, cursed to live upon Earth's soil.
"Now," said the Sun, "you can live eternity helping Earth's people."
But even this could not stop them — they found their way. Every night Lupus would go out of his den and howl at Luna. Luna listened to his songs and danced around the Earth, mocking the Sun.
