"It wouldn't be bad to fall," thundered in her ears. It bounced in her brain, it shouted at her. It wouldn't leave her alone.
She climbed. She climbed up and up, the words fueling her feet like an itch slithering under her skin. She weaved between people, all the way to the top; she climbed. She didn't look down, she didn't notice the trees passing by her, she didn't notice the air flying past or the ground moving farther away, she didn't notice anything but the words screaming in her head.
They wouldn't leave her alone.
She reached the top. She looked around. She saw her car parked in the little street. It wouldn't be so bad to fall. She felt the air through her hair, she looked up at the sky. It was the same blue as down below, it wouldn't be so bad to fall, she breathed, birds flew by her, it wouldn't be so bad to fall, she held her hands in the air. She was up here, she was finally done, the ground seemed so far away. It wouldn't be so bad to fall, it would be like flying, she thought, and her black sneakers walked forwards until there was only air below her feet. It wouldn't be so bad…it wouldn't be so bad...it wouldn't be so bad.
She smiled as the wind soared past her ears. It was finally silent.
